Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid period, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally separating with long-term trainer Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents his initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court after spring of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is really nice," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the top level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an better service.

He came back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, winning 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

He rescued four early-game break points in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
