The Australian skipper has taken over 300 dismissals in 71 Test matches with an stellar bowling average.
The Australian chief selector the selector has stated that skipper Cummins will play a "major part" in this winter's historic rivalry.
Rumors had circulated that Cummins might miss the series due to a stress fracture in his back that had not yet healed.

He revealed that the captain is progressing and remained hopeful about the prospects of taking part.

"The outlook is good. There's strong faith that he's going to play a major part. Hopefully it's the first Test. Should that not happen, we'll reassess."
Previous Setbacks
Cummins was ruled out Australia's limited-overs series against India and New Zealand last month after medical tests showed a lumbar bone stress.
There is a track record of back injuries, with setbacks in multiple past seasons leading to absences from three Australian summers in a limited period.
Cummins stated he would be bold in recovery efforts in his recovery plan to make the squad for the contest.
He mentioned that he did not know if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his recovery but conceded it was "pressing" for him to recover fully for the opener.
Contingency Plans
If he's unavailable, ex-skipper Smith will lead the side.
The talented all-rounder was excluded lately from Australia's squad for their limited-overs matches against India as a precautionary measure because of an abdominal issue.
Bailey described it as a "small issue and confirmed that Green will play in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "well-prepared to deliver overs."
"We put so much time has gone into creating the schedule for him to be available for the initial game as an batting and bowling option," Bailey explained.
"His involvement was limited to the first two ODIs anyway. His aggressive style the willow in shorter formats, if it causes any delay for a short period, we opted to adopt a safer strategy."
